The N6-705 & the EL-3794 car adapters were invented to make the EL3300 series cassette recorders capable of being connected into the car to make the recorder perform as a car player. Of course it could still record if required. In the USA the cassette recorder had to catch up with the establised 4 track Cartridge Player, which was quickly developed into the 8 track Cartridge Player. Thanks to the car adapter the cassette recorder soon overtook the cartridge player. There was economy in one player that could be quickly and easily put in and taken out of the car - to be used as a portable, home or car player. And unlike the cartridge recorder - the El3300 series could record including music from the radio. By the end of the decade the Cartridge and the Player fizzled out whilst the Philips cassette recorder continued for several decades after. Please see my youtube videos on each of the cassette recorders for more info.
